Green Key- certification

GREEN KEY CERTIFICATION RENEWED FOR 2026

In recognition of our sustainability efforts, Vuokatti Sport’s Green Key certification was renewed in September 2026. This marks the third consecutive year that our operations have received this international sustainability certification. We first achieved Green Key certification in autumn 2024.

Vuokatti Sport’s Green Key certification covers our accommodation, restaurant and sauna services. The certified accommodation includes Sport Resort rooms, Standard rooms, Sport Apartments and Vuokatti Chalets apartments. Our lakeside saunas are also included in the certification.

As a Green Key certified business, we are committed to continuously improving our sustainability practices and reporting on our progress as part of the annual renewal application. Compliance with the criteria is verified through regular on-site audits. The certification is awarded by an external, independent Green Key jury.

WHAT IS GREEN KEY?

Green Key is an international sustainability certification and programme for the tourism industry. Its criteria are based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and include requirements for reducing environmental impact, increasing social benefits and supporting the local economy.

Participating businesses commit to improving their operations over the long term and reporting on their sustainability work annually. Green Key also provides advice, training and communication materials to support these efforts.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY ACTIONS IN PRACTICE

Our journey towards Green Key certification began in 2023, and we achieved our first certification in autumn 2024. Earning and maintaining the certification requires practical, concrete action. For example, we have:

– Installed water-saving flow restrictors in taps and showers.
– Replaced lighting with energy-efficient LED fixtures.
– Introduced a food waste scale in our restaurant to encourage guests to reduce food waste.
– Improved our sustainability communications and documented our sustainability work in a written report.

PROGRESS ON OUR 2026 GOALS

During 2026, we have expanded the sustainability content on our website, highlighting environmental, social and economic responsibility more clearly.

We have also produced Vuokatti Sport’s first sustainability report. The report brings together our key sustainability practices, concrete actions and future goals. In addition, we have increased sustainability-related communications on our website and social media channels.

OUR SUSTAINABILITY GOALS FOR 2027

1. Introducing an anonymous reporting channel

We will develop an anonymous reporting channel for guests and staff, allowing them to report suspected misconduct or inappropriate behaviour safely and confidentially. The channel will be integrated into our customer feedback system.

2. Developing a plan towards carbon neutrality

We will begin preparing a written plan to be incorporated into our environmental programme. The plan will support our goal of making steady progress towards carbon neutrality by 2030. Our environmental coordinator will lead this work together with our managers.

We will continue our long-term sustainability work and communicate openly about our goals, actions and progress.

Sustainable Travel Finland – label

Visit Finland has developed the Sustainable Travel Finland program and the Sustainable Travel Finland label for tourism businesses and regions, enabling the tourism industry to meet evolving demand and continue growing in the future. The Sustainable Travel Finland label is a recognition of valuable and long-term efforts in promoting sustainable tourism. Businesses that receive the label have addressed ecological, social, cultural, and economic sustainability in their operations. The label signifies a company’s responsibility and the ongoing work being done to enhance sustainability. The objectives of the STF label include:

• Promoting sustainable tourism in Finland.
• Simplifying and standardizing communication.
• Making it easier for travelers to make sustainable choices.
• Fostering collaboration among different stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism.

Responsible Vuokatti – Together Towards Sustainable Tourism

Sustainability is a widely discussed topic, but together with other tourism companies in Vuokatti, we want to do more than just talk—we want to take responsible action. The strength of Vuokatti as a travel destination lies in its diverse nature across the four seasons, and preserving these four seasons requires concrete actions.   We are committed to developing and promoting sustainable tourism, and the goal for the Vuokatti region is to become a Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) certified destination by 2025. Achieving this requires a commitment to responsible operations from the area’s tourism companies, and additionally, at least 51% of the companies engaged in international tourism must complete the STF pathway and obtain the certification.   Why? Awareness among consumers and potential employees is growing all the time, which means companies can no longer afford to miss this train.

Cooperation with FINCIS

Vuokatti Sport, together with other sports institutes, is committed to implementing the Fair Competition Programme developed for sports institutes and training centres in cooperation with the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports (FINCIS).

We aim to promote clean sport and activities that comply with the principles of fair play at sports institutes. For athletes, this means, for example, that when staying at Vuokatti Sport, an athlete subject to the Anti-Doping Code agrees that their room details may be disclosed to a FINCIS representative upon request.

As part of our cooperation with FINCIS, we are committed to observing the ethical principles of sport and the Finnish Anti-Doping Code in all our activities. We also cooperate with anti-doping organisations in investigating anti-doping rule violations.

Furthermore, we are committed to refraining from any form of competition manipulation. If we suspect or become aware of competition manipulation, we will report it immediately to our employer and FINCIS.
